"The music absolutely created the mood of the film, and drew us along - remarkable. "

- Ellen Kushner, American writer and winner of the World Fantasy Award.

In this example the music needed to capture the magical sensuality of Lanval's experience.
 The Ballad of Mary Whyddon

This trailer was cut to music I composed for another project. It's always amazing how successful it can be to recycle a music cue!

The opening of Sir Lanval.

This example introduces the the principal theme The Otherworld. It also contains an example of underscoring with dialogue.

If you keep watching you'll also hear the strong Camelot theme which enters at 4:30.

Little Girl Lost

This example is for a children's film, so it is a simple, poignant melody. There are only nine instruments, yet it still sounds full and sonorous.

Shock An example of intense dramatic conflict. Listen
Guinevere in the Orchard A beautiful, folk type melody for just two instruments - recorder and celesta. The recorder creates a lovely medieval feel. Listen
Hurdy Gurdy Player Amongst my pool of fabulous musicians is one of the world's great hurdy-gurdy players. This extraordinary sound brings a unique quality to a score. Listen
Cherry Waltz This haunting and strange waltz accompanies our heroine as she walks through the woods to steal the fairy ointment. (you can hear her footsteps in the forest) It shows what can be done with just four instruments. Listen
Presentation of Gifts This is an example of underscoring, supporting the dialogue. The music comes to the fore at the end with a shot of a knight in golden armour on a white horse. (That was really good fun to compose for - the actor looked totally hot!) Listen
